Radiation from a Traveling-Wave Current Sheet at the Interface between a Conventional Material and a Metamaterial with Negative Permittivity and Permeability

چکیده
In this paper, we present an analysis for the radiation from a traveling-wave infinitely-extent sheet of monochromatic electric current that is placed at the interface between a conventional lossless dielectric and a lossless material possessing negative real permittivity and permeability. The field distributions and the direction of the Poynting vectors in both half spaces are discussed, and some physical remarks are provided. A brief note about launching Zenneck waves by a line current along this interface is also mentioned. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Refraction at the Interface of a Lossy Metamaterial
The refraction phenomenon at the interface of an ordinary material and a lossy metamaterial has been investigated. For oblique incidence on the lossy metamaterial, the planes of constant amplitude of the refracted wave are parallel to the interface and the plane of constant phases make a real angle with the interface (real refraction angle). The real refraction angle and hence, the real refract...
متن کاملSurfaceWaves along a Boundary of Single Negative Material
Existence of a surface wave along the boundary between the semi-infinite materials, one of which is a free-space and the other is a material with either negative permeability or negative permittivity, is theoretically investigated. Surface waves exist in only limited combination of negative and positive signs of the material parameters. In addition, by analyzing the surface wave in a finite-thi...
متن کاملCharacterization and tilted response of a fishnet metamaterial operating at 100GHz
We numerically and experimentally investigate a fishnet metamaterial operating at around 100 GHz. Qualitative effective medium theory and standard retrieval characterization methods are performed to demonstrate the double negative nature of the fishnet structure. This study is extended to include the effects of a finite number of unit cells at each layer and the number of layers in the propagat...
متن کاملA Miniaturized Antenna with Negative Index Metamaterial Based on Modified SRR and CLS Unit Cell for UWB Microwave Imaging Applications
A miniaturized antenna employing a negative index metamaterial with modified split-ring resonator (SRR) and capacitance-loaded strip (CLS) unit cells is presented for Ultra wideband (UWB) microwave imaging applications. Four left-handed (LH) metamaterial (MTM) unit cells are located along one axis of the antenna as the radiating element. Each left-handed metamaterial unit cell combines a modifi...
متن کاملT-coercivity for scalar interface problems between dielectrics and metamaterials
Some electromagnetic materials have, in a given frequency range, an effective dielectric permittivity and/or a magnetic permeability which are real-valued negative coefficients when dissipation is neglected. They are usually called metamaterials. We study a scalar transmission problem between a classical dielectric material and a metamaterial, set in an open, bounded subset of R, with d = 2, 3....
